Metro Strike On Night Of One Direction Show Cancelled

The UK leg of the world tour One Direction starts at Sunderland on Wednesday


The strike would have disrupted travel plans on the night of one of the biggest pop concerts Northeast has been canceled.

RMT union members were due to leave on Wednesday when thousands of people will be at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland for a direction.

The dismissal of an employee was followed by the Metro operator DB Regio .

The union said that all industrial action has been canceled after it reached an "acceptable agreement".

Nexus, which owns and manages the Tyne and Wear Metro, said the strike was suspended this morning after fresh talks between the RMT union and DB Regio.

Deputy Director General of Nexus, Tobyn Hughes said: "I am happy that the strike has been called off Common sense has prevailed and a day of great distress to thousands of our customers have been avoided  ...

“Metro services will now operate as usual tomorrow and still have additional services for One Direction concert in Sunderland.”

An RMT spokesman said management had “come around” and made an "acceptable" offer.

A spokesman for DB Regio said: “This is great news for all our passengers using Metro to travel, as well as those traveling to the One Direction concert at the Stadium of Light.”

Almost 50 One Direction Fans Injured In Rush At Gig In Peru

About 50 children treated for asphyxiation at the stadium concert in Lima on Sunday (April 27)


 
About 50 fans were injured during One Direction concert in Peru on Sunday (April 27).

The band was in South America to play the second date of their world tour and was playing in the 40,000 capacity Estadio Nacional de Lima. Police say a race to approach the band took 47 fans treated for asphyxiation.

Sky News quoted Chief of Police, General Salvador Iglesias saying that "when the doors opened concert had rushed young people rushed to the front."

Meanwhile, Mario Cassareto, head of Peru’s fire service said the young fans had to be removed from the stage and balcony area to get medical help. "We have treated 47 children from 12 to 15 years for symptoms of suffocation. Everything under control. We have nothing to be ashamed of, we have handled the situation well," he told the Peruvian radio.

A spokesman for the band said: “use the management side in their match on tour, the best specialists in crowd control and security in advance to plan in advance and the day with all the experts and relevant local services including police, fire , medical , place and the promoter . "

Tour of Directors remains in Chile, where the band will play two concerts at the National Stadium in Santiago.
